Shrek Musical
The Shrek Musical just had its preview debut on Broadway and it has audiences of all ages pumped to see the lovable ogre live and in person. The Shrek Musical could be one of the biggest shows to hit Broadway in a long time. Organizers are hoping that the musical will be a huge hit for the holiday season.
The Shrek Musical is scheduled to officially make its Broadway debut in December. However preview screenings started on November 8. There are already quite a few Shrek tickets already on sale, and opening night will no doubt be a fantastic event.
Some of Broadway’s biggest names have been brought in to help assure the success of Shrek the Musical. Screen writer David Lindsay-Abaire wrote the book. He won a Pulitzer Prize for “Rabbit Hole.” The Shrek Musical is being directed by Jason Moore, the Tony-Award winning “Avenue Q.” Olivier-winner Jeanine Tesori is the composer.
In addition to a great crew, the Shrek Musical has some welll-known Broadway names. Brian D’Arcy James plays Shrek. Donkey is played by Daniel Breaker, recently nominated for a Tony Award for his work on “Passing Strange.” Fiona is played with by Tony-Award-Winner Sutton Foster and Christopher Sieber is Lord Farquaad.
There was a trial run of the Shrek Musical in Seattle this summer. It received good reviews as was definitely recommended for children. While children will of course love the Musical, older audience members also be entertained. If you are in the mood, this site has tons of info on the Shrek Musical.
